Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Real Estate, Power and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.39%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which rose 3.55% or 14.20 points to trade at 414.60 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) added 3.55% or 23.10 points to end at 673.00 and Grasim Industries Ltd. (NS:GRAS) was up 2.26% or 22.29 points to 1009.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bank Of Baroda (NS:BOB), which lost 2.89% or 4.90 points to trade at 164.55 in late trade. Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) declined 2.31% or 13.65 points to end at 578.00 and POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (NS:PGRD) shed 1.98% or 3.60 points to 177.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which rose 3.48% to 414.60, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was up 3.03% to settle at 197.30 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 2.00% to close at 1111.10.
The worst performers were NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which was down 2.42% to 149.05 in late trade, Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which lost 2.30% to settle at 579.15 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 1.90% to 1372.30 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 886 to 602 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1507 fell and 1311 advanced, while 126 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.60% to 14.8350.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.12% or 1.50 to $1270.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $49.84 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.10 to trade at $51.96 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.11% to 66.645, while EUR/INR fell 0.02% to 74.5790.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.16% at 96.28.
