Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Real Estate and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.16%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ITC Ltd (NS:ITC), which rose 4.07% or 10.20 points to trade at 260.80 at the close. HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) added 2.60% or 20.30 points to end at 800.75 and Bank Of Baroda (NS:BOB) was up 2.47% or 3.65 points to 151.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN), which lost 3.05% or 24.00 points to trade at 763.75 in late trade. Tata Motors Ltd . (NS:TAMO) declined 2.94% or 14.95 points to end at 493.30 and Ambuja Cements Ltd. (NS:ABUJ) shed 2.64% or 7.15 points to 263.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 3.73% to 260.20, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was up 2.49% to settle at 4991.00 and Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which gained 1.26% to close at 3260.00.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 5.85% to 156.25 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which lost 2.80% to settle at 493.85 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which was down 2.37% to 1341.95 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1067 to 416 and 46 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1144 fell and 500 advanced, while 36 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.38% to 15.6925.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.38% or 5.15 to $1364.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.32% or 0.53 to hit $40.59 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.59% or 0.67 to trade at $42.81 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.05% to 66.736, while EUR/INR rose 0.25% to 74.7130.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.41% at 95.36.
