Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Auto, Metals and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.14%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which rose 2.96% or 10.60 points to trade at 368.65 at the close. GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) added 2.92% or 14.05 points to end at 495.80 and Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA) was up 2.10% or 2.25 points to 109.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Motors DV Ltd (NS:TAMdv), which lost 8.98% or 28.45 points to trade at 288.50 in late trade. Tata Motors Ltd . (NS:TAMO) declined 7.55% or 38.15 points to end at 467.15 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) shed 3.30% or 23.55 points to 691.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 3.03% to 369.00, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was up 3.02% to settle at 495.75 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 1.94% to close at 1048.25.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was down 3.68% to 486.80 in late trade, Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which lost 2.02% to settle at 3161.15 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 1.70% to 848.25 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1013 to 488 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1742 fell and 1013 advanced, while 164 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.80% to 13.8025.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.39% or 4.75 to $1230.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.81% or 0.43 to hit $53.36 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.95% or 0.53 to trade at $56.12 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.04% to 66.939, while EUR/INR rose 0.10% to 71.0600.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 100.87.
