India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 1.02%

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Metals, Auto and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.02% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.92%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors DV Ltd (NS:TAMdv), which rose 4.09% or 12.70 points to trade at 322.95 at the close. Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE) added 4.00% or 11.00 points to end at 285.90 and Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB) was up 3.98% or 46.30 points to 1209.45 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Tech Mahindra Limited (NS:TEML), which lost 2.63% or 13.15 points to trade at 487.45 in late trade. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) declined 1.91% or 45.50 points to end at 2334.00 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) shed 1.45% or 12.40 points to 844.55.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (BO:APSE) which rose 4.88% to 287.75, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was up 3.47% to settle at 419.15 and Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which gained 3.18% to close at 501.95.

The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 1.85% to 2334.55 in late trade, HDFC Bank Ltd. (BO:HDBK) which lost 0.22% to settle at 1183.45 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 0.19% to 996.40 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1064 to 424 and 51 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1909 rose and 870 declined, while 128 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.29% to 15.0500.

In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.64% or 7.45 to $1172.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.04% or 0.02 to hit $53.28 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $56.45 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.07% to 67.945, while EUR/INR rose 0.12% to 71.2798.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.07% at 102.42.
