Investing.com – Greece equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Banking, Financials and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Athens, the Athens General-Composite declined 3.00%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Athens General-Composite were Techn Olympic (AT:OLYr), which rose 8.12% or 0.069 points to trade at 0.919 at the close. Papoutsanis (AT:PSALr) added 2.27% or 0.004 points to end at 0.180 and Elton S.A. (AT:ELNr) was up 1.81% or 0.016 points to 0.900 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Piraeus Bank SA (AT:BOPr), which lost 9.87% or 0.023 points to trade at 0.210 in late trade. Eurobank Ergasias SA (AT:EURBr) declined 7.67% or 0.055 points to end at 0.662 and Halcor (AT:XAKO) shed 6.68% or 0.028 points to 0.391.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 76 to 29 and 15 ended unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.56% or 6.45 to $1165.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.09% or 0.58 to hit $52.40 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.57% or 0.32 to trade at $55.40 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.35% to 1.0661, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.8386.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.31% at 100.77.
