France shares lower at close of trade; CAC 40 down 0.29%

Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Transportation, Technology Hardware & Equipment Financial and Gas & Water sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 fell 0.29%, while the SBF 120 index lost 0.44%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Peugeot SA (PARIS:PEUP), which rose 3.14% or 0.47 points to trade at 15.44 at the close. Renault SA (PARIS:RENA) added 2.85% or 2.32 points to end at 83.85 and Airbus Group (PARIS:AIR) was up 2.12% or 1.25 points to 60.14 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Publicis Groupe SA (PARIS:PUBP), which lost 2.75% or 2.00 points to trade at 70.81 in late trade. Arcelormittal (AMS:ISPA) declined 2.56% or 0.24 points to end at 9.20 and Alcatel-Lucent (PARIS:ALUA) shed 1.87% or 0.066 points to 3.462.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Peugeot SA (PARIS:PEUP) which rose 3.14% to 15.44, Coface (PARIS:COFA) which was up 3.09% to settle at 11.03 and Renault SA (PARIS:RENA) which gained 2.85% to close at 83.85.

The worst performers were Innate Pharma (PARIS:IPH) which was down 14.12% to 8.880 in late trade, Maurel Et Prom (PARIS:MAUP) which lost 6.25% to settle at 7.03 and Havas (PARIS:HAVA) which was down 4.73% to 6.850 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 705 to 198 and 45 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 1.38% to 18.19.

In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.65% or 7.80 to $1204.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 4.47% or 2.20 to hit $51.41 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 5.05% or 2.85 to trade at $59.34 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.79% to 1.0883, while EUR/GBP fell 0.59% to 0.7328.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.51% at 97.58.
