Investing.com – China equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Telecoms, Mobile and Media sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Life Insurance, Banking and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Shanghai, the Shanghai Composite rose 0.37% to hit a new 3-year high, while the SZSE Component index lost 0.04%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Shanghai Composite were Maanshan Iron SS (SS:600808), which rose 10.05% or 0.570 points to trade at 6.240 at the close. Yunnan Yunwei (SS:600725) added 10.05% or 0.610 points to end at 6.680 and Cn First Heavy (SS:601106) was up 10.04% or 1.060 points to 11.620 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Lubei Chemical (SS:600727), which lost 6.40% or 0.830 points to trade at 12.140 in late trade. Xianmen Xiangy (SS:600057) declined 5.48% or 1.060 points to end at 18.280 and Hundsun Tech (SS:600570) shed 5.01% or 6.490 points to 123.040.

The top performers on the SZSE Component were BYD Co Ltd (SZ:002594) which rose 10.01% to 62.98, Chongqing Changan Automobile Co Ltd (SZ:000625) which was up 10.00% to settle at 22.32 and Pangang Group Vanadium Titanium & Resources Co Ltd (SZ:000629) which gained 9.94% to close at 5.53.

The worst performers were Weifu High-Technology Group Co Ltd (SZ:000581) which was down 3.34% to 35.62 in late trade, Shenwan Hongyuan Group Co Ltd (SZ:000166) which lost 2.86% to settle at 19.02 and Jilin Aodong Pharmaceutical Group Co Ltd (SZ:000623) which was down 2.37% to 40.42 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 519 to 442 on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

The CBOE China Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Shanghai Composite options, was up 1.62% to 31.45.

In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.06% or 0.70 to $1187.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.45% or 0.26 to hit $55.91 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.58% or 0.36 to trade at $62.37 a barrel.

USD/CNY was up 0.05% to 6.1987, while EUR/CNY fell 0.43% to 6.6151.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.32% at 98.56.
