Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Telecoms, Consumer Discretionary and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Linamar Corporation (TO:LNR), which rose 14.00% or 10.22 points to trade at 83.21 at the close. Intertape Polymer Group Inc. (TO:ITP) added 9.71% or 1.600 points to end at 18.080 and CCL Industries Inc (TO:CCLb) was up 8.74% or 12.18 points to 151.54 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Enerflex Ltd. (TO:EFX), which lost 7.24% or 1.13 points to trade at 14.47 in late trade. Trinidad Drilling Ltd. (TO:TDG) declined 7.10% or 0.37 points to end at 4.84 and Black Diamond Group Limited (TO:BDI) shed 6.46% or 1.04 points to 15.05.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 723 to 718 and 216 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.69% to 14.76.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.60% or 7.10 to $1183.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 3.45% or 2.10 to hit $58.83 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 3.43% or 2.33 to trade at $65.44 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.69% to 0.8245, while CAD/EUR rose 0.01% to 0.7317.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.58% at 94.74.
