Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Mining, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (TO:FM), which rose 6.88% or 1.07 points to trade at 16.62 at the close. Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TO:FVI) added 5.26% or 0.22 points to end at 4.40 and Autocanada Inc (TO:ACQ) was up 5.24% or 1.97 points to 39.56 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Progressive Waste Solutions Ltd. (TO:BIN), which lost 4.68% or 1.70 points to trade at 34.63 in late trade. Gran Tierra Energy Inc. (TO:GTE) declined 3.94% or 0.170 points to end at 4.150 and Osisko Gold Ro (TO:OR) shed 3.63% or 0.66 points to 17.52.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 725 to 714 and 192 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.66% to 13.65.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.67% or 8.10 to $1195.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.86% or 0.49 to hit $57.81 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $63.45 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.06% to 0.8174, while CAD/EUR rose 0.71% to 0.7613.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.54% at 98.15.
