Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.33%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG), which rose 12.97% or 1.25 points to trade at 10.89 at the close. Sierra Wireless Inc . (TO:SW) added 11.43% or 4.41 points to end at 42.98 and HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO:HBM) was up 10.94% or 0.73 points to 7.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD), which lost 9.41% or 0.40 points to trade at 3.85 in late trade. OceanaGold Corporation (TO:OGC) declined 6.05% or 0.290 points to end at 4.500 and Alacer Gold Corp (TO:ASR) shed 5.33% or 0.120 points to 2.130.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 669 to 436 and 138 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.45% to 12.61.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.90% or 11.59 to $1281.61 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.07% or 0.03 to hit $45.69 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.31% or 0.15 to trade at $47.91 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.05% to 0.7406, while CAD/EUR rose 0.41% to 0.6603.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 96.93.
