Investing.com – Belgium equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Chemicals, Basic Materials and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Brussels, the BEL 20 fell 0.31% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the BEL 20 were Delta Lloyd (AMS:DLL), which rose 2.37% or 0.39 points to trade at 16.71 at the close. Ageas (BRU:AGES) added 2.02% or 0.630 points to end at 31.870 and Ackermans V.Haaren (BRU:ACKB) was up 1.39% or 1.50 points to 109.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Solvay (BRU:SOLB), which lost 3.69% or 4.95 points to trade at 129.15 in late trade. Befimmo-Sicafi (BRU:BEFBb) declined 2.36% or 1.420 points to end at 58.860 and bpost NV (BRU:BPOST) shed 2.32% or 0.58 points to 24.47.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 105 to 69 and 4 ended unchanged on the Brussels Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.38% or 4.50 to $1188.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.27% or 0.77 to hit $61.17 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.90% or 0.60 to trade at $68.12 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 1.29% to 1.1330, while EUR/GBP rose 1.01% to 0.7440.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.03% at 94.29.
