Investing.com – Belgium equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Chemicals, Technology and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Brussels, the BEL 20 rose 1.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the BEL 20 were Umicore (D) (BRU:UMI), which rose 3.67% or 1.53 points to trade at 43.19 at the close. Ackermans V.Haaren (BRU:ACKB) added 2.73% or 3.00 points to end at 112.80 and D'Ieteren (D) (BRU:IETB) was up 2.54% or 0.870 points to 35.095 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Elia (BRU:ELI), which lost 1.00% or 0.405 points to trade at 40.260 in late trade. Colruyt (D) (BRU:COLR) declined 0.15% or 0.07 points to end at 43.77 and Belgacom (BRU:BCOM) gained 0.16% or 0.06 points to 34.23.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 125 to 49 and 2 ended unchanged on the Brussels Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 2.34% or 27.50 to $1202.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.33% or 0.19 to hit $57.34 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.16% or 0.10 to trade at $65.17 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.32% to 1.0910, while EUR/GBP fell 0.05% to 0.7156.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.34% at 96.75.
