Investing.com – Australia equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Resources and Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.20% to hit a new 3-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Qantas Airways Ltd (ASX:QAN), which rose 5.59% or 0.180 points to trade at 3.400 at the close. Vocus Fpo (ASX:VOC) added 5.09% or 0.290 points to end at 5.990 and Ten Network Holdings Ltd (ASX:TEN) was up 4.76% or 0.010 points to 0.220 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Arrium Ltd (ASX:ARI), which lost 5.26% or 0.010 points to trade at 0.180 in late trade. Santos Ltd (ASX:STO) declined 4.87% or 0.440 points to end at 8.590 and Sundance Energy Australia Ltd (ASX:SEA) shed 4.58% or 0.030 points to 0.625.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 530 to 448 and 173 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.50% to 19.212.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.23% or 2.70 to $1184.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.57% or 0.34 to hit $58.60 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.36% or 0.23 to trade at $65.31 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.05% to 0.7911, while AUD/JPY rose 0.24% to 94.90.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.27% at 94.99.
