The pound edged above the 1.27 level ahead of the Prime Minister's statement. At 12:15 GMT, GBP/USD was up 0.1 percent at session highs of 1.2738.
The speech is titled ‘A new Brexit deal - seeking common ground in Parliament.’
It was reported on Sunday that the PM will make a 'bold' new offer to members of parliament on Brexit. The revised offer is an attempt to get the withdrawal agreement over the line when the bill returns to parliament for a fourth time next week.
On leaving Cabinet earlier on Tuesday, ministers were reportedly 'in agreement' with May's new offer.
In one last push before May stands down as prime minister, it is expected the PM will propose a revised plan on customs ties with the European Union in the hope that this will be enough to get support for her Brexit deal.
Ahead of the Cabinet meeting, May's political ally and Leader of the House, Andrea Leadsom, made clear she would not support a formal customs agreement with the EU.
To pass the bill, May will need to win over members of her own Conservative party and opposition Labour MPs. At least seven Tory back-benchers are said to have revoked their support of May's withdrawal agreement.
Earlier in the week, as it became clear that cross-party talks between the government and opposition Labour party had broken down, the pound fell to 4-month lows.
