Benzinga - Former President Donald Trump has received and sold cryptocurrency for the past couple of years resulting in a crypto portfolio worth several million dollars.

However, Trump was not always a fan of crypto. In 2021, he called Bitcoin and crypto a "disaster waiting to happen," and said that "they may be fake. Who knows what they are? They certainly are currencies that people don't know very much about. I'm not a big fan."

However, in 2022, Trump allowed his name and likeness to be used for the Trump Digital Trading Cards non-fungible token (NFT) collection. The project sold 45,000 NFTs for $99 each. Trump has received over 1,700 Ethereum (ETH) in royalties from the project. He sold 1,075 tokens in December for $2.4 million and now holds around 800 ETH worth $2.3 million.

Trump's largest holding is in MAGA Coin (TRUMP). This meme coin launched last August and has since become hugely popular in the crypto community. At launch, the project's creators sent 580,000 TRUMP tokens to the former president. At the time, TRUMP was worth less than $0.01, and the position was worth a few thousand dollars.

In March, the price of TRUMP reached a high of $11.56. At highs, Trump's position was worth $6.7 million. TRUMP has since fallen to around $5, but Trump still holds his 580,000 tokens worth around $2.8 million.

Trump also has a considerable position in the Conan (CONAN) meme coin, which is named after a dog who sustained injuries in the raid on Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. After the raid, Trump presented Conan with an award.

"Conan did a fantastic job, and we’re very honored to have Conan here and to have given Conan a certificate and an award," Trump said in his speech about the dog.

The speech and award resulted in the CONAN meme coin. The founders sent Trump 20 billion tokens at launch, which equates to 2% of the 1 trillion token supply. The price of CONAN has performed well since launching in early 2024, and Trump's position is worth nearly $250,000.

Trump also owns a handful of Polygon (MATIC) worth around $3,700. These tokens were likely acquired during his dealings with the NFT projects.

Trump's portfolio houses over 50 other meme coins, most of which were sent to Trump by supporters or creators of the projects as marketing stunts. However, none of the other tokens account for a considerable portion of the portfolio. Trump owns over $5.5 million in crypto.
