No sense in sending Ukraine weapons without first training crews - Scholz

BERLIN (Reuters) - It was right to ensure that Ukraine's military was fully trained in the use of advanced weaponry like the Panzerhaubitze 2000 mobile artillery system before delivering the arms, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Monday.
Germany has come under increasingly severe criticism for its alleged tardiness in supplying to Ukraine the weaponry that Kyiv says it needs to take the fight to invading Russian forces in its east.
But Scholz said crews were currently being trained in the use of "one of the most advanced military systems in the world" and that it would have made no sense to deliver them before Ukraine's crews were in a position to make use of them.
