World Markets Update: Global Selloff Continues

All eight indexes on our world watch finished in the red this week, a worsening from the four up, four down split of last week. For the past six weeks the manic-depressive Shanghai Composite has been either the top or bottom performer. This weekly close marks its seventh week with that distinction: It was indeed the top performer, but with a -2.23% loss. Its neighbor index to the east, Japan's Nikkei was the worst performer with a -7.02% plunge. The S&P 500's -.3.40% weekly loss was a tad better than the -3.73% average of the eight.

Here is an overlay of the eight for a sense of their comparative performance so far in 2015.
