India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 3.82%

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 3.82%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 3.62%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 13.56% or 37.25 points to trade at 312.00 at the close. Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) added 8.63% or 213.45 points to end at 2687.20 and GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) was up 8.12% or 5.75 points to 76.60 in late trade.

Biggest losers included IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK), which lost 15.14% or 62.60 points to trade at 350.80 in late trade. Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) declined 10.44% or 2.60 points to end at 22.30 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) shed 2.70% or 360.10 points to 12973.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 7.84% to 172.00, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was up 7.76% to settle at 1112.45 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 7.64% to close at 68.30.

The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 14.68% to 351.15 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 1.23% to settle at 4287.75 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 1.17% to 2216.05 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1151 to 365 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1458 rose and 721 declined, while 145 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 10.41% to 64.4075.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.94% or 31.80 to $1611.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 7.22% or 1.45 to hit $21.54 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 3.90% or 1.03 to trade at $27.45 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.15% to 75.502, while EUR/INR fell 0.65% to 82.7510.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.58% at 99.860.
