Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Healthcare and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.61% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Granite REIT (TO:GRT_u), which rose 6.91% or 2.770 points to trade at 42.850 at the close. Hudson's Bay Company (TO:HBC) added 5.17% or 1.18 points to end at 24.00 and Black Diamond Group Limited (TO:BDI) was up 3.78% or 0.66 points to 18.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dominion Diamond Corp (TO:DDC), which lost 7.07% or 1.58 points to trade at 20.77 in late trade. Bankers Petroleum Ltd. (TO:BNK) declined 4.44% or 0.140 points to end at 3.010 and Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K) shed 4.30% or 0.13 points to 2.89.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 758 to 597 and 206 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.02% to 14.15.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.01% or 0.10 to $1180.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.23% or 0.74 to hit $60.02 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 2.07% or 1.35 to trade at $63.76 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.05% to 0.8128, while CAD/EUR fell 0.10% to 0.7217.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.01% at 94.98.
